Manan Vohra, who has played for multiple IPL teams such as Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals over the years, became part of the Lucknow Super Giants in 2022. Notably, during the 2022 and 2023 IPL seasons, Gautam Gambhir was the mentor of LSG where Manan Vohra got only a handful of matches for the franchise before being released by them ahead of the auction.
During an exclusive interview, Manan Vohra mentioned that he got one game in LSG colours (against Chennai Super Kings which was abandoned due to rain), and he could score only 10 runs in it. Following that, the right-hander spoke about talking to Gambhir about playing only one game and getting dropped from the playing XI of Lucknow Super Giants.
Gautam Gambhir told me, "You're batting well": Manan Vohra
The Chandigarh-born cricketer revealed, "I went to Gambhir and had a chat with him. He told me, 'You're batting well'. Then I told him that I wanted to have a chat with you. I told him that I got just one match and got dropped. I am batting well, and anyone can get out in one match, and that was also a washout game'', Manan Vohra spoke on Tanwar Kohli's YouTube channel.
‘Some players get eight matches, some get one’: Gautam Gambhir to Manan Vohra
Manan Vohra spoke about how Gautam Gambhir told him that ‘not every player will get equal chances’. The former also mentioned that he could have gotten offended but later on, understood why Gambhir said those words. Talking about Vohra, he was released by the LSG ahead of the IPL 2024 player auction. He went unsold during the auction, and it will be interesting to see whether he gets to play in the IPL again.
"He answered me very plainly-sweetly-simply and said, 'Life is different for everyone; some players get eight matches, some get just one. It's not everyone gets the same amount of matches, but if you have got one match, then you have to do it in that one match only, end of story,' and I was like stunned. I could have got offended, but I realised the depth of that conversation when he said if you are so good, then even if you have got one match, then you have to prove yourself and move ahead'', Manan Vohra further added.
