Manchester City and France footballer Benjamin Mendy appeared at Chester Crown court on Wednesday to deny the eighth rape charge, which allegedly took place while the footballer was on police bail. The 28-year-old City left-back is accused of ten offences in total against seven women.
Mendy has reportedly committed the offences against the seven young women between October 2018 and August 2021 and Mendy is on police bail after his arrest in November 2020. The latest count was allegedly carried out in July 2021.
City defender pleaded not guilty to nine of the charges in May and the last one on Wednesday. Mendy, who is accused of eight counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape, will now go on a trial on Monday.
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola revealed Mendy would be out of the game for at least a month due to an injury. However, the club later stated, "Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation. The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete."
