The future of Andre Onana seems pretty uncertain at the moment with Manchester United on the cusp of a big transition period in the coming summer. Since the appointment of new manager Ruben Amorim in the midst of the current season, fans have been waiting for Amorim’s first full season in charge where he can hopefully build his own team around his own philosophies. Andre Onana does not seem to be on the ‘untouchable’ list for Amorim in the coming transfer window and therefore might be shipped out of the club soon.
And these rumours are further fuelled by the sustained interest of Saudi Pro League clubs in the Red Devil’s shot-stopper. The Middle East outfits have been keen to bring Onana to the SPL ever since his transfer to United in 2023 and a growing speculation about his future in Manchester could mean a golden opportunity for these club to rope him in. Although Onana’s current contract runs on until 2028, the Saudi clubs would not mind pitching in a heavy sum of money to acquire the 29-year-old’s services.
Will Onana start against Lyon in upcoming Europa League tie?
Onana has had a string of poor performances lately which has caused him to be sidelined by United’s manager Ruben Amorim. After a disastrous outing against Lyon in the first leg of the Europa league quarter-final, where his blunders cost 2 goals to the team, Onana was dropped from the squad to face Newcastle United, with Altay Bayindir being handed a start. As United gear up to face Lyon at home in the second leg, it will be interesting to see whether Onana makes the cut.
Speaking on the same matter, manager Ruben Amorim said that he has not yet made a final decision about Onana’s inclusion in the squad. When questioned about whether Onana will start in the upcoming Europa League match, Amorim replied, “Onana vs Lyon? You guys have to wait. I’m going to choose the best starting XI for the next one.”
