Punjab captain Mandeep Singh’s wife burst into tears after the team's historic win in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2023. Punjab defeated Krunal Pandya-led Baroda by 20 runs to clinch the victory. Pandya and Co. made it to the final by defeating Riyan Parag-led Assam. Despite giving a tough fight to Mandeep and his boys, their effort fell short, and Punjab went on to lift the trophy for the first time ever.
With this, Mandeep became the first captain to guide the side to their win in the tournament. His wife, who was present in the stands, got emotional and tears started streaming down her eyes, pictures of which have been doing rounds on social media.
Speaking of the match, Punjab went on to bat first, and got off a shaky start, losing two wickets for just 18 runs. However, Anmolpreet Singh and the skipper built a 50-run partnership. After Mandeep was dismissed at 32 runs, Anmolpreet went on to play a crucial inning for his side and scored 110 runs to build a total of 223 runs with the loss of four wickets.
In the second inning, Baroda could manage to score only 203 runs by losing seven wickets in 20 overs. Winners Punjab got a sum of INR 80 Lakh as prize money, while runners up, Baroda got INR 40 Lakh.
