During their third and final Group B match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, England’s batting lineup collapsed early, losing three wickets within the first seven overs of their innings. Marco Jansen, the left-arm pacer for South Africa, was the chief destroyer as he dismissed Phil Salt, Jamie Smith, and a dangerous Ben Duckett, to put England firmly on the backfoot in the final match as captain for Jos Buttler.

For the unversed, after winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Jos Buttler, the captain of England, expected his top order to make a decent start, but it was far from it. After sending Phil Salt back into the pavilion in the first over itself, Marco Jansen did for Jamie Smith in his next over without allowing him to trouble the scorers, reducing them to 20/2 in 2.3 overs at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

Shortly after, Marco Jansen got the prized wicket of Ben Duckett for 24 off 21, who was striking boundaries fluently in the early stages of his innings. It was a delivery at leg stump, which the left-handed batter tried to turn towards the square leg region, only to find the leading edge of the bat before the ball ballooned straight into the hands of Marco Jansen in his follow through.

As of this writing, England have reached 77/3 at the completion of 12 overs with Joe Root and Harry Brook trying to resurrect the innings.
