Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, who is out of favour at the English giants currently, has been ruled out of the upcoming clash against Liverpool at Anfield due to illness. Club manager Ruben Amorim confirmed that the 27-year-old hasn’t trained in the build-up to the highly anticipated game versus Liverpool because of his ill health, which is why he won’t be travelling with the squad to Merseyside this Sunday.
Notably, Marcus Rashford was recently left out of Manchester United’s matchday squad for four consecutive matches reportedly due to his poor performance in training and his attitude around club colleagues. But in the final game of the year 2024, Ruben Amorim brought Marcus Rashford back into the team against Newcastle, but ultimately Manchester United went on to suffer a tough 0-2 home defeat at Old Trafford.
He is not training and this week he is out: Amorim on Rashford
With the pressure of results firmly and squarely on Ruben Amorim after losing five of the last six matches in the Premier League, he broke the news in the press conference about Marcus Rashford’s illness when asked about whether he will be in the matchday squad against Liverpool. The Portuguese was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “At the moment he (Marcus Rashford) is ill. He is not training and this week he is out.”
Following that, Amorim was asked about the current status of Rashford at Manchester United, especially with him being linked to a potential move away from his boyhood club in the ongoing January transfer window. In response, the club manager reiterated that nothing has changed over the past few weeks, “It's the same situation. We will see in the future, but this is like a normal player and then I make a selection.”
Moreover, a win is much needed for Manchester United to stall their losing streak so to speak in the Premier League, and showcase that they aren’t embroiled in the relegation battle.
