Mason Greenwood, the forward for Manchester United, is set to leave the Premier League club with immediate effect. The communications department released a statement, wherein it was revealed that the Red Devils had concluded their internal investigation into the allegations made against the 21-year-old to arrive at the decision on August 21, Monday.
Notably, the Wibsey-born footballer was charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour last year. The charges were discontinued by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in February 2023, after the key witness withdrew their involvement in the matter, leading to no realistic prospect of conviction.

When the news of the incident first emerged last year, Mason Greenwood was suspended by Manchester United, pending the outcome of their internal investigation, which started after the decision to the contrary by the CPS. It led to the statement getting released earlier today about the outcome of the internal investigation, in which the 21-year-old mutually agreed with the club to leave them, in his bid to correct the mistakes for which he is taking responsibility for.
The news of Mason Greenwood going away from the Premier League club sent social media into a feeding frenzy. While most of the fans were happy with the decision, a select few were quick to voice their displeasure on the treatment of the footballer too.
The 21-year-old also sent out his statement about the mutually agreed decision of leaving Manchester United.
Apart from discussing his career options, he talked about his intention to be “a good father, a better person, and to use my talents in a positive way on and off the pitch.”
