The Sri Lanka squad has been marred with injury blows as two of its star players have been ruled out ahead of the three-match ODI series against India, which commences on Friday, August 2. Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka have added to the long list of injured players in the Sri Lanka squad ahead of the opening ahead, which is set to be played on August 2 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
While Pathirana picked up a shoulder injury in the recently concluded T20I series, Madushanka has sustained a hamstring injury, thus ruling the two pacers out of the ODIs. The development around the same was confirmed by team manager, Mahinda Halangoda. “Matheesha has jarred his shoulder, and because it is the same issue that he had during the World Cup last year, they have chosen not to risk it,” Mahinda Halangoda confirmed to ESPNcricinfo.
It is to be noted that Dushmantha Chameera continues to sit out after he was ruled out of the T20I series with illness, while Nuwan Thushara fractured his thumb, ruling him out of the India tour. However, the SLC have brought uncapped right-arm seamer Mohamed Shiraz, while the other inclusion is said to be announced on Thursday, August 1.
