New Zealand pacer Matt Henry took a brilliant sliding catch to dismiss Jasprit Bumrah in the first Test. After a washed-out Day 1 of the first Test, cricketing action between India and New Zealand got kicked off on Thursday, October 17, at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma began the day by winning the toss and opting to bat first in overcast conditions of Bengaluru. India, coming on the back of a two-series win against Bangladesh, got off to a disappointing start.
The Kiwis got their first success in the form of home skipper Rohit Sharma as he walked back after scoring two runs off 16 balls. Talismanic batter Virat Kohli departed next on a nine-ball duck. While things were expected to get better, the Tom Latham-led side showed no mercy and made full use of their home-like conditions. Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant tried to add some runs as batters kept changing on the other hand. However, even Pant couldn’t do much and departed after scoring 20 runs.

New Zealand continued to dismantle India’s batting line-up and Pant remained the highest scorer for the side. A total of five batters including Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin got out for ducks. Within no time, India were reduced to 39-8. Jasprit Bumrah, who came to bat on number nine fell prey to William O'Rourke's delivery, owing to a stunning catch taken by Matt Henry.
Bunrah managed to get a top-edge on Rouke’s delivery as the ball flew high in the air before going towards long leg. Henry ran to some distance on his left and pulled off a stunning sliding catch to send Bumrah back on one run off three deliveries. India lost their final wicket as Kuldeep Yadav got dismissed for two runs as Matt Henry picked a fifer.
