With his recent win in the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday, Max Verstappen shattered Ayrton Senna’s 33-year-old record. Notably, Verstappen was in fine form in the Mexican Grand Prix and while it was anticipated that he may have a good run this season, few thought the Dutch would be able to surpass Senna's record which had lasted over three decades.

It was Verstappen's ninth successive win of the season for Red Bull with an engine powered by Honda and the previous record was of eight wins in a single season with a Honda engine and it belonged to Senna who achieved the feat in 1998.

In addition, Verstappen also managed to break Alain Prost's record tracing back to the same year with his win in the United States Grand Prix. Prost had seven wins in the 1998 season. While Honda has made repeated appearances in F1, nobody managed to surpass these records until Verstappen in 2021.

Post Senna and Prost, the next best in Honda's all-time list is Nigel Mansell who managed six wins for Team William back in the year 1987, when he had bettered his own record of five wins in 1986.

Coming back to Verstappen while he had already broken the record this year, it should not be forgotten that there are four more races to go this year and he could well go on to improve on the same.

Red Bull's car was far superior this weekend: Lewis Hamilton

The Red Bull driver had finished more than 16 seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton who came second. The Briton was a little over a second ahead of Sergio Perez, who became the first Mexican driver to claim a podium finish on home soil.

"Their [Red Bull's] car was far superior this weekend and there was nothing we really could do about it," Hamilton, who is running out of time to catch up with Verstappen in the championship title race, said after his performance.

"I gave it absolutely everything and even obviously a great fight with Sergio at the end, but I'm really grateful I was able to at least get a second," he added.

"I feel positive in the sense that I had a good race. I did it with the car that I had, and the car was not good today," he concluded.
