While some sort of a rift between Red Bull teammates Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez became evident when Verstappen, who has long sealed the world championship this season, refused to give his place to Perez, it is said to take turns for the worse after an incident involving Vertsappen's mother.

Notably, Sophie Kumpen, who is a former go-karter champion herself, perhaps wanting to share her view on the incident that happened at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix where Verstappen held his somewhat irrelevant sixth place but did not help his teammate finish second in the season's driver standings, took to Instagram to make an accusation.

The allegation came against Perez in a now-deleted comment where she stated: "And then in the evening cheating on his wife." The comment was made seemingly referencing another controversial incident from earlier in the year where Perez was spotted with women not yet identified. The Mexican driver was, in fact, caught dancing with a woman.

The incident became viral so much so that Perez was forced to issue a public apology to his wife Carola Martinez.

"I have seen the videos that have been circulating about me and I take responsibility for it," Perez had said as per the Daily Mail.

"It was a bad party that I didn’t know how to control at the height of the person that I am, but it was just that, a very bad party," he added.

He had even added in his message that he and his wife are "more united than ever."

"Thank you all for your love and I apologise to all the people who love me because those videos don’t represent me, not at all," he said.

"We will not talk about this topic anymore, which only makes us forget the great moment we are living as a family. Thank you," he stated.

Perez married Martinez in 2018. The Mexican driver is the father of three children with the couple welcoming a baby boy ahead of the 2022 Spanish GP.
