The Indian hockey team took down Malaysia in the final of Asian Champions Trophy on August 12, Saturday. Harmanpreet Singh-led side took down their rivals 4-3 to win the champions title for the fourth time. In a nail-biting thriller on Saturday evening, many incredible scenes unfolded at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium when the jam-packed stadium echoed AR Rahman-composed 'Vande Mataram'.
The Indian fans came together and sang the famous rendition of India’s national song to boost the morale of the home team. The match took a dramatic turn, when the Indian team made a solid comeback in the game. The four-time Asian champions took the lead in just 11 minutes by bouncing back in the game from 1-3 to beat their Malaysian counterparts 4-3.
In a video posted by the Indian Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju, the fans could be seen singing the famous song. Rijiju congratulated the Indian team on their triumph, and accompanied the video with the caption, “What a sensational final game it was! “

Notably, India defeated Japan 5-0 in the semifinal of the tournament, whereas Malaysia gained a 6-2 win over South Korea to make it to the finals.
