Australia captain Meg Lanning called it quits on her international cricket career at the age of 31. Lanning made her international debut at the age of 18 in 2010 and played 241 matches for Australia, including six Tests, 103 ODIs, and 132 T20Is. Not only this, but Lanning also led Australia to seven World Cup wins during her glorious career. The 31-year-old will continue to play domestic cricket in Australia and probably in India.
The Singapore-born addressed the media on Thursday and said that she feels it is the right time to bid adieu to international cricket. She said, "I just wanted to say how lucky and privileged I have been to have been able to represent Australia and play the game I love." She added, "I am very thankful for all the opportunities; I’m sad that it’s finishing up, but I’m very much ready for something new.”
Lanning continued to say, "The decision to step away from international cricket was a difficult one to make, but I feel now is the right time for me. I've been incredibly fortunate to enjoy a 13-year international career, but I know now is the right time for me to move on."
The former Aussie captain won two ODI World Cups and five T20 World Cups. She amassed a total of 8,352, with a total of 17 centuries and 38 half centuries.
