Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Melbourne Renegades have removed Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman from their squad following sanctions imposed by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). The Afghan spinner will miss the next fixture for the Renegades, which is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, 2 January at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against the Glenn Maxwell-led Stars.

The Renegades took to social media to confirm this decision. “Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been removed from the squad after a change to his NOC conditions made him unavailable for the match,” the franchise quoted.

The Nic Maddinson-led side earlier had stated that they had received no such information regarding Mujeeb’s unavailability for future games for the edition.

It is to be noted that the Afghan spinner along with two other members of his national side, namely, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq were imposed with sanctions from the ACB after they opted to priortize franchise cricket over national duties. The board further opted to delay their national contracts and withheld their No Objection Certificates (NOCs).

Speaking of the Renegades, the Melbourne-based side are reeling at the seventh place in the points table with a solitary win so far in the tournament from six matches. While they have won one, they have lost four matches, whereas one ended in a no result.
