Kieron Pollard, the batting coach of Mumbai Indians (MI), has backed his former teammate and veteran Rohit Sharma to hit form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 sooner rather than later. After the Indian Test and ODI captain has begun the ongoing IPL 2025 season with a string of low scores, Kieron Pollard remarked that while players fail more than they succeed, he is sure about everyone singing the praises of MI superstar when he delivers a big score.
Notably, Rohit Sharma had a horror start to the IPL 2025 at the top of the order for MI, scoring a duck against Khaleel Ahmed in their season opener against big rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In their second match, which was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, he was dismissed after hitting two boundaries in the first over against Mohammed Siraj, who cleaned him up while playing for Gujarat Titans (GT).
I'm sure we'll be singing out his praises when he comes out and gives us that big score: Pollard on Rohit
During the first win of the IPL 2025 season, which came in the third match of the tournament for MI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Rohit Sharma could only score 13 runs before pulling a shorter delivery bowled way outside the off stump by Andre Russell of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the fielder. While speaking about the difficult start for Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard was quoted as saying, as per Cricbuzz, “There are times when you have a couple of low scores but, you know, he's earned the right as an individual to now enjoy his cricket and not be pressurised in certain situations.”
So let's not judge on a couple low scores. In cricket, you know, we fail more than we succeed and I'm sure we'll be singing out his praises when he (Rohit Sharma) comes out and gives us that big score and then we'll be on to the next hot topic,” added the West Indies legend ahead of MI’s upcoming IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). These two are slated to play their fourth match of the IPL season against each other on Friday, April 4, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Moreover, Kieron Pollard also hailed Rohit Sharma for his exploits in cricket since their under-19 days, and said, “Personally, I've played alongside Rohit since under-19 cricket and he has forged his name and etched his name in history, in the record books, in different situations, different formats of the game. He's a legendary name in his own right and as an individual as well.”
