On Monday, April 1, Rajasthan Royals secured a comprehensive six-wicket win against Mumbai Indians in the match 14th of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This was the third straight victory for RR in the IPL 2024, emerging as one of the top teams in the early stages of the tournament.

After Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, called the toss right, he decided to send Mumbai Indians into batting first. In the first over, Trent Boult was on an absolute tear, dismissing Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir for golden ducks, to put MI on the backfoot from the very beginning.

The New Zealander also picked up the wicket of the impact substitute Dewald Brevis for a golden duck as well, before Ishan Kishan went back into the pavilion for 16 off 14 on a fiery delivery from Nandre Burger. The captain of MI, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma put together a fifth-wicket stand of 56 runs, but it was far from enough for them.

Rajasthan Royals kept chipping away at wickets right throughout the Mumbai Indians innings, keeping them to a below-par total of 125/9 at the end of their allotted overs.

In the pursuit of the 126-run target, RR lost the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, and Sanju Samson after reaching double digits, getting reduced to 48/3 at one stage. But then, Riyan Parag, who has been the star of the show with the bat for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024, stitched together a vital 40-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Ravichandran Ashwin, to put Mumbai Indians out of the reckoning.

Riyan Parag stayed unbeaten on 54 off 39 with five fours and three sixes, to help RR get their third straight win of the ongoing IPL season. He also became the newest recipient of the Orange Cap after scoring 181 runs in three matches due to a better strike rate after equalling Virat Kohli on the run-scoring ladder.
