Mickey Arthur will be returning to Pakistan cricket as the head coach of the men’s team. But in a shocking revelation as per the Pakistani media, Arthur will be coaching the team online. Reports say he won’t be present with the team for all series and will only travel only for the most important tours.

As per BolNews Pakistan, Arthur agreed to coach the Pakistani team after multiple requests by Pakistan Cricket Board and after Saqlain Mushtaq decided against extending his contract. Previously, Arthur had refused to come on board but will take up the role in a hybrid manner. Reports further stated, Arthur may not be available for tournaments like Asia Cup 2023.

However, he will be on the ground for the World Cup 2023 in India as his contract will run till the ODI World Cup in October. In Arthur’s absence, PCB will choose an assistant who will work with the team on the ground. As the new coach, Arthur will also be looking into hiring a new bowling coach for the side.

Mickey Arthur’s return to the PCB set-up was confirmed by Najam Sethi last week. Sethi, in a press conference, stated that the official news about this re-hire will be made public soon. “I am personally in negotiations with Mickey and we have resolved 90 per cent of issues,” Sethi said. “Hopefully, we will very soon share the news that Mickey will be joining us. I’d like him to build his own team of coaches once he is here.

Arthur has previously worked with teams like South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka. He was previously in charge of the Pakistan team between 2016 and 2019 when they lifted the 2017 Champions Trophy and became the top-ranked T20I team in the world. Sethi also named, former batsman Haroon Rasheed as the chief selector, who took over from former all-rounder Shahid Afridi who held the post on an interim basis.
