Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has joined the Perth Scorchers squad for the 2024-25 Big Bash League after the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With that, he is also set to make his return in the BBL after three years as the Scorchers are scheduled to face Melbourne Renegades in match number 26 at the Perth Stadium on January 7.
Mitchell Marsh last played in the Big Bash League in the 2021-22 season where he scored 347 runs, and scalped five wickets in eight matches. Marsh has played 70 matches for Perth Scorchers in his BBL career so far, amassing 1904 runs at an average of 38.85, and taking 25 scalps at an economy rate of 8.92. Along with Marsh, Jhye Richardson, who was also a part of Australia’s squad for the final Test against India, is also back in the Scorchers’ squad for the BBL 2024-25.
He can smack a few balls around here: Adam Voges on Mitchell Marsh’s return to Perth Scorchers squad
Perth Scorchers head coach Adam Voges has also shown excitement in welcoming Mitchell Marsh in the squad, and feels it will help him to free up after a long Test series against India. Although Australia won the series by 3-1, it wasn’t a great series for Marsh as a player as he could only score 72 runs, and take four scalps in four matches. He was ruled out of the playing XI for the fifth Test in Sydney where Beau Webster made his Test debut for the Aussies.
"If anything, hopefully (playing for the Scorchers) would free Mitch up. International cricket is such high pressure and Test cricket and an Indian series just adds to that. We'd love to have him back in orange and see if he can smack a few balls around here,” Adam Voges was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.
