On Monday, December 30, Australia registered a comprehensive 184-run win against India to go 2-1 up in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series. However, the match saw India give a fightback on Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test, but suffered a batting collapse in the next inning with three wickets coming in the opening session, followed by seven wickets coming in the final session of the day to get bundled out at the score of 155.
For Australia there were also some bright spots, but several players struggled to cope, including the likes of Mitchell Starc. The veteran Aussie pacer got only one wicket to his name in the Boxing Day Test, that too came in the second Indian innings. Moreover, Starc’s dismal performance came as he struggled with some sore back, mounting on Australia’s injury concerns since Josh Inglis was ruled out.
He’ll be fine: Pat Cummins shares positive update on Mitchell Starc’s injury
Speaking after the completion of the MCG Test in Melbourne, skipper Pat Cummins shared a positive update on Starc, indicating that he is likely to be fit for the Sydney Test, which is set to commence from January 3. "I think every fast bowler knows it, the first ball of a spell when you're a bit sore, it's always hurts a little bit more. So yeah, I'm pretty confident he'll be fine,” Cummins said at the post-match press conference.
“We'll reassess in a couple of days but yeah, he's managing a couple of sore bits, looked like his ribs or something. But he's a warrior. He gets through. He never even contemplates not being an option to bowl. So, yeah, other than being in pain, he's fully fully fit and available," he added.
