Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has opened up on his future at the Merseyside club in an exclusive interview, stating that he is ‘far away” from signing a new deal with them despite being in the form of his life in the recent seasons. The Egyptian will be out of contract at the end of the ongoing 2024-25 football season, but he can enter negotiations with non-English clubs from January 1 onwards for a free transfer once his deal with Liverpool runs out next summer.

Notably, in the last fixture of 2024 for Liverpool, Mohamed Salah scored his 20th goal of the ongoing season, to help the team defeat West Ham United in a dominating fashion with a 5-0 margin at the London Stadium. With this fantastic result, the Merseyside club have extended their lead on the top of the Premier League standings by eight points, ahead of second placed Nottingham Forest, accumulating 45 points in just 18 matches, which includes just one defeat.

We are far away from that contract: Mohamed Salah on Liverpool future

In the post-match interview, when Mohamed Salah was asked about his future at Liverpool, he was categoric in mentioning that there hasn’t been any progress made in regards to extending his stay at the club. He was quoted as saying by Star Sports, “No, we are far away from that [contract] and I don't want to put anything in the media. The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that. I will do my best for the team to win the trophy. There is a few other teams catching up with us and we need to stay focused and humble and go again.”

Apart from Mohamed Salah, his Liverpool teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and captain Virgil van Dijk are also going to be without a contract at the conclusion of the current season, but it doesn’t worry manager Arne Slot much. He remarked, “I think I have a lot of control over what they do. If they're on a training pitch, if they're in a meeting with me... but talking about the private lives, I don't have control about them. I have control to a certain extent over them, from what I expect from them on the pitch, and I'm really pleased to see what Virgil brings, what Trent brings and what Mo (Salah) brings.”

Moreover, in the earlier part of the ongoing season, Mohamed Salah was quite disappointed about Liverpool not offering him a new deal to stay at the club after the summer of 2025.
