On Saturday, December 14, Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir announced retirement from international cricketer in an emotional post on his official X (formerly called Twitter) account. Notably, the star pacer came out of retirement in March 2024 to play for the Men in Green in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.
While this is not the first time he has announced retirement from the sport, his first came in 2020 when he claimed to be “mentally tortured” by the team management. The 32-year-old, who returned from retirement this year, said that after positive discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board, he has opted to come out and play against for his country.

Although, Amir got his opportunities once again, playing 12 matches, including four in the quadrennial tournament in June 2024, the 32-year-old called it quits once again on Saturday, December 14, just nine months later. “After careful consideration, I have taken the difficult decision to retire from international cricket. These decisions are never easy but are inevitable. I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan Cricket to new heights!” he wrote.
“Representing my country has been and always will be the greatest honour of my life. I would sincerely like to thank the PCB, my family and friends and, above all, my fans for their continuous love & support,” he further added.
Notably, Amir’s retirement is the second retirement in Pakistan cricket in just 24 hours. On Friday, December 13, Imad Wasim, who retired last year in November, also confirmed his decision to step away from the game. “To all fans & supporters: After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket. Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honor of my life, and every moment wearing the green jersey has been unforgettable,” he wrote.
