Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan, who has been recently appointed as the captain of Pakistan’s white-ball captain was reportedly reluctant in accepting the captaincy. On October 28, PCB announced the latest change in the leadership after Babar Azam resigned to focus more on his individual performance. However, Rizwan’s role in the leadership will only be limited to his advisory capacity only.

As per latest reports, Rizwan was initially hesitant to take up the role in limited overs. It is being said that he accepted the role only on the basis of the latest Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) policy where the final team selection decisions will be taken only by the selection committee. The reports by PTI suggest that his input on Pakistan’s white-ball squad selections will strictly be advisory and there won’t be any voting rights.

His input in the selection process would be strictly advisory: PCB Source

A PCB source was quoted as saying by PTI, "After discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, and senior selector, Aaqib Javed, Rizwan agreed to the new system where his input in the selection process would be strictly advisory.” It added, “Under the new policy, the selection committee is now responsible for selecting touring squads and the playing eleven.”

After his appointment, Rizwan stated, “One of my wishes is to see the Pakistan team in the same kind of atmosphere that we had a couple of years ago. We were all with each other at any stage, whether things were working for us or not. Because of that, a lot of things worked in our favour back then.”

He added, “The same things are present now also. But the difference is that we have more young talent along with seniors, and we wish that we all as a team gel together. It’s a bit difficult when the seniors are playing and when the young lot comes and takes time to understand things. I guess during the Australia series, we will regain the same momentum that we had earlier.”
