India’s star batter Virat Kohli said that Cheteshwar Pujara is the worst runner between the wicket he has seen in his career so far. Kohli made this revelation during a chat show with former South African cricketer and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter AB de Villiers on Tuesday. The two cricketers talked about a lot of things ranging from how Virat Kohli met Anushka Sharma to what was the most memorable cricketing atmosphere the two individuals have been a part of.
The chat started with Kohli talking about his recent Test century (which he hit against Australia in the 4th Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy). The India batter then talked about his camaraderie with the Australians during the series. Meanwhile, during the Quick Singles segment, Kohli was asked to answer a few questions and it was then he picked the best and the worst runner between the wickets.
While Kohli picked MS Dhoni as the second-best runner between the wickets (as his first pick was AB de Villiers), the 34-year-old said that Cheteshwar Pujara is the worst runner between the wickets. Kohli also narrated an incident from India’s tour of South Africa in 2018 to back his claim.
“It was the Centurion Test, I remember. I was just sitting when I heard cheers and celebrations. I looked at the replays, Pujara had played a shot first ball and was run out. Then in the second innings, Parthiv Patel played a shot wide of gully and AB was running behind the ball. When AB picked up the ball, Pujara called for the third run. He was running to the danger end. When Quinton de Kock took off the bails, there was no one in the frame. So, I was like, you got run out in the first innings and now you call for a third with the best fielder of the opposition behind the ball,” said Kohli.
About his best partner while running between the wickets, Kohli said that after ABD, MS Dhoni was the one he would trust with his eyes closed. Kohli said that “I would not even have to call when running with him”.
The former India captain then also answered a few quick questions. When asked which bowler he would choose to bowl for his life, Kohli said Dale Steyn. The batter also picked the most memorable moment of his career. “2016 IPL Final is there but the 2011 World Cup was at the top till 23 October 2022 happened. It was the best atmosphere to be a part of,” said Kohli.
