The IPL 2024 auction was successfully hosted outside of India for the first time ever and all ten franchises went all out for their targeted players. While Pat Cummins became the first player to breach the INR 20 Crore mark, Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player, getting sold to KKR for INR 24.75 Crore.
Similarly, the reigning champions of IPL, Chennai Super Kings once again targeted New Zealand players, roping in Daryl Mitchell for INR 14 Crore, signing upcoming star Rachin Ravindra for INR 1.80 Cr. While they roped in the best talent available suiting their team strength, one question that came back was who will be MS Dhoni’s successor at CSK.

Addressing the press after the big buys, head coach Stephen Fleming once again spoke of MS Dhoni’s successor in the franchise. “We’ve had succession plans for MS for about 10 years. It is going to be a talking point, but he is as engaged and as enthusiastic as I have seen him for a while. While that passion is there for the team and franchise, we’ll roll on,” Stephen Fleming said.
The former New Zealand cricketer was also asked if they see Daryl Mitchell as Ben Stokes after the franchise released their last auction buy in the retention-released window. Speaking at the press conference, Fleming said, “He played just one game, so not massive shoes. Daryl is a different type of player, but his performance over the last 18-24 months have warranted this type of price.”
