With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announcing the IPL 2024 schedule for the first 17 days, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the tournament opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22.

While the CSK will eye to defend their IPL title, aiming to surpass Mumbai Indians to be become most successful side in the cash-rich league. But before the season starts, reports state that MS Dhoni will hand over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad in the middle of the 2014 edition. However, this comes as a surprise as former India cricketer Aakash Chopra had earlier opined that someone from the 10 franchises will leave the captaincy mid-way through the season.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Aakash Chopra had stated, “Why do I feel that we will have a team changing its captain in the middle of this IPL season?? Hoga?? Let’s wait and watch”.  Check the top betting trends on the  best betting apps in India  and sites.

While the former cricketer-turned commentator did not name anyone, the first name which came to the mind was CSK skipper MS Dhoni. The 42-year-old has age by his side and continues to struggle with some knee injury which he got operated for last year. However, it will be seen if there is any captaincy change during the course of IPL 2024.

The Chennai-based franchise earlier also made a change in their captaincy during IPL 2022. The 15th edition saw MS Dhoni return to captaincy after Ravindra Jadeja opted to quit it mid-way through the season.

Speaking of CSK’s IPL 2024 schedule, while they will feature in the tournament opener against RCB on March 22, they will next play Gujarat Titans in Chennai on March 26, before talking Delhi Capitals in Vizag (March 31) and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on April 5.
