Former Indian and Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni’s ex-business partner has been arrested by the Jaipur Police over a complaint raised by the Ranchi-born star. Mihir Diwakar, the ex-partner of Dhoni in Aarka Sports Management Pvt. Ltd., was accused of INR 15 Crore fraud for not honouring a contract, as written in the police complaint.
The complaint has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code which includes Sections 406, 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120B. Following the complaint, which was filed at the District Court of Jharkhand, Jaipur Police took Mihir in their custody on the allegations of purportedly using MS Dhoni’s name in setting up cricket academies in India and abroad.
In 2017, the 42-year-old joined hands with Mihir Diwakar and his wife Soumya Vishwas’ Aarka Sports and Management and signed a deal that ought to open cricket academies in India and overseas. It also stated that the organization was liable to pay franchise fees and distribute profits with MS Dhoni accordingly.
However, the Diwakar-owned company started establishing academies without consulting the World Cup winner or giving him his due payments. Following falsely using the star cricketer’s name, Dhoni revoked the authority with Aarka Sports in 2021, but Diwakar continued to use his name for setting up academies.
For accepting franchise fees for academies run by Dhoni’s name such as MS Dhoni Cricket Academy and MS Dhoni Sports Academy, the World Cup-winning skipper claimed he lost more than ₹15 Crore owing to allegedly using his name and violating the agreement.
