Off-spinner Mukesh Kumar came up with an economical spell of 2/11 and helped his side Kanpur Superstars defeat Gorakhpur Lions by seven wickets in the last league match of the UP T20 League 2024. The match took place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, September 8. With this win, Kanpur Superstars also confirmed their place in the playoffs while Gorakhpur Lions are eliminated from the tournament.
After Kanpur Superstars’ skipper Sameer Rizvi elected to field first after winning the toss, the bowlers didn’t let their skipper regret the decision as Vineet Parma and Mohsin Khan removed both the openers inside five overs. After that, Mukesh Kumar took the charge of bowling in the last over of the powerplay and dismissed Siddharth Yadav on the very first ball of the over, thanks to a brilliant catch by Adarsh Singh in the slips.

On the last ball of the over, Mukesh Kumar scalped the wicket of Abhishek Goswami, where Adarsh Kumar was again present at on-side to take another brilliant catch. After taking two wickets in the first over of his spell, Mukesh Kumar didn’t let Gorakhpur Lions batters play freely as he conceded just 11 runs in three overs. He was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant and economical bowling spell that helped Kanpur Superstars register a commanding victory.
Kanpur Superstars finished in the third place at the points table after defeating Gorakhpur Lions by seven wickets in the last league match of the UP T20 League 2024. Shoaib Siddique played a steady knock of 48*(54) runs along with Adarsh Singh’s 35(39) as Kanpur Superstars chased the target in 17.3 overs losing three wickets.
The tournament has reached its playoffs stage where Meerut Mavericks and Lucknow Falcons will face each other in Qualifier one at Ekana during the afternoon on September 11. Kanpur Superstars and Kashi Rudra will lock horns in the Eliminator at the same ground during the night fixture.
