On Monday, April 7, the two-time winners of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Mumbai Indians (MI) Women parted ways with Charlotte Edwards. The former English cricketer, who has been with the franchise since the inaugural season of the WPL, have left the MI side after taking over the role as England Women’s head coach.
It is to be noted that under Edwards’ guidance, MI clinched the inaugural title in 2023, followed by their second title triumph coming in 2025, when they defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) Women by eight runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on March 15.

The franchise took their social media handles to confirm this move, while extending her best wishes for her new role with the Three Lions. “Thank you, Coach Lottie, for being an inspiration and guiding us to two championships with a smile ���� Good luck for your new role as England Women's Head Coach”, the caption read.
“Charlotte Edwards has been a leader for whom the entire #OneFamily has enormous admiration, appreciation and respect. The incredible achievements that Charlotte has driven the team towards, winning 2 titles in 3 years, developing and inspiring the girls to play their best cricket and taking the MI legacy forward and bringing joy to the MI Paltan. We wish her all the very best and are grateful for everything she has brought to our team over the past 3 years,” an MI spokesperson said.
Speaking of her career as coach, Edwards has won five Women’s Cricket Super League titles with Southern Vipers, The Hundred with Southern Brave and then the two titles with MI Women. But now, the former cricketer will join the English side, replacing Jon Lewis.
