Netherlands cricketer Stephan Myburgh on Monday (7 November) announced retirement from international cricket. The South Africa-born cricketer hung his boots after the Dutch side ended their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign on a high, registering one of the biggest upsets in T20 World Cup.

The Netherlands side beat South Africa in their last T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 fixture. With this win, they secured a direct qualification for the 2024 T20 World Cup, set to be held in West Indies.

Talking about Stephan Myburgh, the 38-year-old scored 37 runs in his final match for Netherlands at the Adelaide Oval. He helped his side register their second win in the Super 12 stage, with Netherlands finishing fifth in the Group 2 standings.

The former cricketer took to Instagram to share this news, stating, “Hanging up the boots….To God be the glory!!! Blessed to have made my first-class debut 17 seasons ago and international debut 12 seasons ago”.

What was noteworthy in his post was Myburgh’s message for South Africa, the team which Netherlands beat in their last league match. “Never in my dreams would I have imagined finishing my career at the World Cup with a win against @cricket_south_africa_ my blood will always be green. As much as a sportsman always want to win,  I had a tear for my beloved country”.
