The Indian cricket team captain, Rohit Sharma discussed his form in ODIs in a recent interview, pointing out at how his strike rate has increased but the average has dipped in the format. The 36-year-old has adopted an aggressive style of batsmanship in ODIs in recent times, which has led to him not scoring big hundreds consistently for Team India like he once used to.

After notching up five scores of 100 and more, during the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019, Rohit Sharma has only managed to put together four hundreds in the next four years in the ODIs. But, at the same time, he took the role of the aggressor in the powerplay, while batting with his long-standing opening partner Shikhar Dhawan, and then, with the new batter in the role, Shubman Gill.

During an exclusive interview with PTI, Rohit Sharma talked about how his approach of taking more risks has led to the run-scoring numbers becoming a bit indifferent. He was quoted as saying, “I wanted to take more risks, which is why my numbers are slightly different now.”

“My (ODI) strike rate (during this period) has increased but the average has dipped a bit. This is exactly what our batting coach (Vikram Rathour) was telling me, 'You have scored big runs because of the way you batted all these years, and in the last few years, it (big runs) has not happened because you are taking a risk',” he added.

Rohit Sharma also spoke about his stats in detail, mentioning how he has compromised on scoring big runs to ensure that the team gets a fast start. He said, “My career strike rate is around 90 (89.97) but in the past couple of years, if you look at my scores and take the strike rate into consideration, it has been around 105-110. So somewhere you had to compromise. It is not possible to have a 55 average and a 110 strike rate.”
