Mayank Yadav, the young Indian fast bowler, has been in the spotlight since making his debut for the national team during the first T20I against Bangladesh. However, during commentary in the second T20I, Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal made a remark, stating that Mayank Yadav hadn’t touched the 150 kph mark in the series. Murali Kartik, his co-commentator, quickly fired back with a witty response about how Bangladesh hasn't done it either.
The 22-year-old Mayank, known for hurling balls at express speeds at the batters in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), regularly bowled over 150 kph and even clocked the fastest delivery of the season at 156.7 kph. Despite his impressive IPL performance, an abdominal strain sidelined him after playing just four matches, but he made a comeback in the ongoing Bangladesh Tour of India 2024.
During the second T20I in Delhi, Tamim Iqbal pointed out that Mayank hadn't bowled at his usual high speed, saying, “Mayank Yadav has not touched 150 in this series.” Murali Kartik, not missing a beat, replied, “Neither has Bangladesh,” silencing Tamim on air.
I was excited but a bit more nervous: Mayank Yadav after making India debut in T20I format
After the first T20I match, Mayank spoke about his debut, sharing that he was nervous after returning from injury. “I was excited but a bit more nervous as I hadn’t played competitive cricket in a while. The recovery period was tough, with a lot of ups and downs,” he said in an interview with Jio Cinema.
Mayank Yadav started his international career with a maiden over, and took his first wicket in the second over. In the second T20I, he took the wicket of Jaker Ali, helping India secure an 86-run victory. The fast bowler might be rested for the third T20I between India and Bangladesh scheduled to be played on October 12, 2024, at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Mayank is returning from an injury he got during the mid-IPL 2024, and India could try out new bowlers like Harshit Rana in the last match of the series.
