Lionel Messi opened up about h is departure from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain and described that the move wasn’t right. The Argentine stated he never wanted to depart Barcelona and that circumstances had forced his hand. Messi was not pleased with life in Paris, furthered by the fans’ dwindling support and the club's faltering in the Champions League.

Barcelona was in a financial crisis owing to mismanagement under then-President Josep Bartomeu. La Liga’s strict wage cap rules meant that a contract agreed upon by Messi in 2021 didn’t permit the club to register the player for the upcoming season. These circumstances forced the Argentine to move to Paris Saint-Germain.
At PSG, things didn’t go as well as the front trio of Messi, Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe were poised to win everything in Europe, but their success was limited to domestic honours. Speaking about the move, Messi said, “Me going to PSG was neither planned, nor desired. I did not want to leave Barcelona.”

The World Cup winner discussed his move to Inter Miami, stating that he wanted to continue in Europe only if he re-signed with Barcelona. Unfortunately, the same financial problems persisted at the Catalan club. Messi then had the option of the MLS with Inter Miami or joining Saudi club Al-Hilal.

He said, “My decision was based on a lot of things. We thought about it a lot and decided with my family. I came here so I could continue to enjoy soccer, it's what I've enjoyed all my life, and I chose that place for that reason more than anything. I can say I'm very happy, not just because of the results on the pitch but because of my family, how, we go about our everyday life. We are enjoying the city and the welcome from fans, which has been extraordinary since the first day.”
