Nepal court on Thursday released high-profile cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane on bail after he was accused of raping a minor in a hotel room in Kathmandu. The 22-year-old was handed the arrest warrant on September 8, 2022 and was granted bail on Thursday (January 12) following his stay for more than three months.

The Patan High Court on Thursday (January 12) ordered the release of Lamichhane with the bail of INR 2 Million, the court sources said. A joint bench of judges Dhruvaraj Nanda and Ramesh Dhakal ordered the release of the former IPL star, thus reversing the decision of the Kathmandu district court.

 

Talking about the series of event, the Nepal cricketer also said, “I am INNOCENT & keep complete belief in the respectable laws of Nepal. I have decided to take a leave from CPL and go back to my country within few days. I am ready to face all these baseless allegations. May justice be served to the innocent & right investigation to be done towards everyone involved. Hope the law acts equal to everyone.”

 

The 22-year-old was taken into custody in October 2022. Post this also Lamichhane also took to social media stating, “fully cooperate in all stages of the investigation and will fight a legal battle to prove my innocence.”
