Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja thinks Rohit Sharma does not
give enough importance to the fielding standards of the Indian team. Jadeja
highlighted the lack of fielding prowess in the recent games, which has hurt
India's chances.
In India's latest outing against South Africa in
T20 World Cup 2022, Virat Kohli dropped an easy catch at deep mid-wicket, while the Indian skipper himself could not affect an easy run-out. Both the chances were of Aiden
Markram, who went on to score 51, which helped South Africa to secure a victory.
In the post-match presentation, Rohit reckoned
that they were sloppy in the field, and he is not proud of the effort.
"We were sloppy in the field. We want to set a high standard in that department. We're not proud of it," Rohit said during the post-match presentation.
As per data on Cricbuzz, The Men in Blue have
dropped 32 catches in T20Is, since the last edition of the T20 World Cup.
The former cricketer reckoned that India set
high standards when Kohli was the captain of the Indian team. Jadeja further
added that with the change in the captain and coach, the current team is not
much athletic.
“The
last time I heard about giving importance to fielding was when Virat Kohli
became Team India's captain. He had taken a decision of including only those
players, who are good fielders. He is no longer the captain and the coach has
also changed. The new captain is not bothered about fielding,” said Ajay
Jadeja.
The 51-year-old went on to criticize the fielding acumen
of Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami. Last month, Mohammed Siraj was also
seen dropping easy catches in the South Africa series.
