Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall has been ruled out of the 2024/25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot. The news comes as a big blow for Newcastle United’s defensive unit as Hall has been a main-stay left-back for the Magpies, starting every game for the club since September 2024. Lewis was dealt the injury blow in Newcastle’s match at Anfield last month where Liverpool came out victorious with a 2-0 scoreline. Hall consulted some specialists for advice and after doing scans he has taken a decision of undergoing surgery.

The injury comes at a very unfortunate time for Hall as he recently had his breakthrough into the senior English national team. He played two games for the national team during November 2024 in the UEFA Nations League. Brought on as a substitute in the match against Greece; Hall earned a spot in the starting lineup in the following match against Ireland.

Newcastle will miss main-stay defender with big matches incoming

Lewis, who is a product of the Chelsea youth academy, moved to Newcastle from Stamford Bridge at the start of this season after spending the previous season on loan with the Magpies. During his first loan tenure in the 2023/24 season with Newcastle; Lewis Hall only played 22 games, coming in as a substitute in eight of those matches. Following his impressive outings, he was offered a permanent move to Newcastle. Since then, he had cemented his place in the starting lineup under manager Eddie Howe. The 20-year-old English defender has had a good season at Newcastle United after featuring in 34 games across all competitions.

The injury will be a big set-back to Newcastle as they are currently sixth in the league table, in what is turning out to be a fiercely contested Premier League season. They will also have a chance to win some silverware as they take on Liverpool in the EFL Cup final on March 16.
