The star Australian player was picked by their captain Lleyton Hewitt. Moreover, his name comes despite struggling with injuries, including injuries to his knee, foot and wrist. However, this call-up comes with his participation in the upcoming Australian Open 2025 remains under the cloud. Moreover, if Kyrgios features in the Davis Cup, he could be seen rekindle his doubles partnership with Kokkinakis, with whom he won the men’s doubles title at the Australian Open three years ago. Notably, the 29-year-old hasn’t featured in the Davis Cup since November 2019.
However, after his 2022 Wimbledon final appearance, Kyrgios returned to competitive tennis at the Brisbane International, alongside Novak Djokovic in the men’s doubles. The duo went onto beat Australia’s Alexander Erler and Germany’s Andreas Mies. Djokovic-Kyrgios duo then ended their doubles run after a defeat against top-seeded Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.
In the singles category at the Brisbane International, the 29-year-old Australian was defeated by Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in three straight sets last week, thus ending his campaign in the tournament.
