After losing the UFC Bantamweight Championship to Sean O’Malley during UFC 292, at the TD Garden in Boston, Aljamain Sterling challenged his fellow American for a rematch down the road, to which he received a big “No” from “Suga” in response. It was on August 19, during the main event, when O’Malley, the challenger, brought his A game, inside the octagon, to stun Sterling with a knockout blow, in round two, to become the new UFC Bantamweight champion.
The “Funk Master,” who had already defended his title on three successive occasions, went into the championship bout as the favourite. The crowd at the TD Garden in Boston saw him sized up Suga and vice-versa, before both the fighters traded blows to bring a very close round one to an end.
But, the beginning of round two was exhilarating, which saw Sean O’Malley attempt a leg kick, but he slipped, allowing Aljamain Sterling to nail him. Although, seconds later, the champion overextended with his left hand to get off balance, letting the challenger find his chin, to lose his championship bout in a spectacular manner at 0:51 of the second round.

With Sean O’Malley becoming the new UFC Bantamweight champion last month, Aljamain Sterling made a move to challenge him for a rematch, while watching UFC 293 from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, on September 10, Sunday. The Funk Master got himself pictured, holding his phone in landscape mode, with the words, “Rematch, Suga?,” with $ signs written on it, but, shortly afterward, Suga said “No” to him, replicating his own style, as posted by MMA Fighting on their official Twitter account.
Moreover, the next combat sports fight for Aljamain Sterling will happen at a pro Jiu-Jitsu event, in collaboration with the UFC. The 34-year-old will fight against the UFC featherweight from England, Nathaniel Wood, at the Polaris 25 from Ebbw Vale Sports Centre, in Cardiff, Wales, on September 30.
