India suffered a shocking loss in the opening Test of the five-match series on Sunday, January 28 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Chasing a target of 231 runs in the final inning, England bowled out India for 202, beating them by 28 runs to go 1-0 up in the series.

While quick dismissals in the final innings along with an impressive seven-wicket haul from debutant Tom Hartley proved a bonus for England, it seemed that India missed Virat Kohli despite KL Rahul playing a crucial knock in the first Indian inning. Speaking after England’s 28-run win against India, former England cricketer Michael Atherton also spoke volumes of the former Indian captain.

“He (Virat Kohli) is by far the biggest star in the game here. The supporters are often drawn to the superstars of the game, and there is now bigger than Virat Kohli here,” said Michael Atherton on Sky Cricket.

“I find him in a fascinating batter to watch. I find him an absolutely fascinating cricketer in general. When he is on the field, even when he is not contributing, he just buzzes around with so much energy. He is very magnetic and charismatic cricketer,” he further added while hailing Kohli.

It is to be noted that Virat Kohli withdrew from first two Tests against England, citing personal reasons. However, there have been reports that the former Indian captain will join the Indian camp around third Test, which is scheduled to start from February 9 in Rajkot.
