The Australian cricket team, led by Pat Cummins, registered an emphatic win by 184 runs against India in the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), to take a 2-1 lead in the series with one match to play. In the press conference, when Pat Cummins was asked about whether he had empathy for his counterpart Jasprit Bumrah, who toiled away at the MCG with a ball, to which he remarked, “Empathy? Not too much” before he had a rye smile on his face.

During the Melbourne Test, Jasprit Bumrah had a massive workload across both the Australian innings, delivering a total of 53.2 overs in total, which led to him picking nine wickets in the match, but it still wasn’t enough for India to get a positive result. Australia dominated the Indian cricket team throughout the five days at the MCG, taking a first innings lead of 105 runs before putting a daunting target of 340 runs on the board for the visitors to chase down in a minimum of 92 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah is obviously a really good bowler in great form: Pat Cummins

After playing a key role in Australia win over India for the first-time in a Test match in Melbourne in 13 years, Pat Cummins was also given the player of the match award for his all-round exploits, apart from his brilliance on the field as captain. Known for his cheeky wit, when the 31-year-old got questioned about Jasprit Bumrah’s immense workload at the MCG over the course of five days, he laughed it off with a comment befitting of him.

Pat Cummins also went on to acknowledge the impact of Jasprit Bumrah in the ongoing BGT Test series after the latter has already picked up 30 wickets in just four matches at an average of 12.83. He was quoted as saying, as per Sportskeeda, “He is obviously a really good bowler in great form. He has been their most influential player. He has made it difficult for us at times. I thought all their bowlers bowled really well yesterday. The pitch wasn't really doing too much, but they made it tough for us and toiled hard.”

With the MCG win, Australia have a great chance of regaining the BGT for the first-time in 10 years by winning the ongoing Test series against India in the final match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), beginning on January 3.
