South Africa registered another convincing win in the tournament by defeating New Zealand by 190 runs. Temba Bavuma-led South Africa locked horns with New Zealand in the 32nd clash of the ODI World Cup 2023. Batting first, the Proteas posted a mammoth total of 357 runs with the loss of four wickets in 50 overs. Earlier, the Kiwi stand-in captain Tom Latham had won the toss and invited the rivals to open with bat first.

South African opener Quinton de Kock gave his side a favourable start and scored his fourth century in the ongoing masterpiece. While the Proteas skipper couldn’t post much on the scoreboard, Rassie van der Dussen played another remarkable knock and posted 133 runs in 118 balls. Coming next was David Miller who smashed a half-century in 30 balls and guided the team’s overall score beyond 300.
While South Africa were having a favourable day in Pune, after the Black Caps fast bowler Matt Henry injured his right hamstring and left the field midway through the sixth over. In the second innings, Bavuma and his men continued their momentum and form and destroyed the Kiwi batting order brutally.
The 2015 and 2019 finalists lost their first wicket in the form of Devon Conway as the batter walked back to pavilion after scoring just two runs. Tom Latham and Co lost further wickets quickly, as reliable batters, including Rachin Ravindra failed to score runs. Glenn Phillips’ 60 runs off 50 deliveries remained the highest score on their side as the Kiwis seemingly surrendered to the lethal bowling attack as well as Keshav Maharaj’s four-wicket haul.
South Africa showed no mercy and dismissed the rivals one by one to bundle them out in 36 overs at 167 runs and won the match by 190 runs. This marked New Zealand’s third consecutive defeat in the ongoing season of the ODI World Cup.
