Hockey stars Monika Malik and Akashdeep Singh are set to tie the knot on November 15 near Chandigarh. Malik, who was a part of the Indian women’s hockey team that finished fourth at the previous edition of the Olympics, hails from the Gamri village of Gohana in Haryana. On the other hand, the 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Singh is a DSP with Punjab Police. He was the highest scorer for India in the 2014 World Cup and is a multiple Asian Games medallist. 

Akashdeep hails from Verowal near Khadur Sahib and he debuted for the Indian team in 2012. Since then, he has played 247 matches for India with a total of 94 goals. Singh was a part of the Indian squad at the Rio Games. Not only this, but he was also a part of the gold medal winning team at the 2014 Asian Games as well as the bronze winning team in 2018 along with the 2022 Commonwealth Games silver winning team.

The two players got engaged on Wednesday, November 13, in a ceremony near Jalandhar. During the occasion, Monika’s father said, “We are all delighted with the wedding. Both have represented India, and playing for India has been their biggest dream. Seeing two India players getting married is special for both families.” He added, “Monika’s dream has always been to play for India, and the fourth-place finish in Tokyo remains a cherished memory. Her marriage to another Indian hockey player is heartwarming.”

Speaking of Monika, she began her journey in Chandigarh and was a part of India’s junior World Cup bronze winning team in 2013. Not only this, but she was also on the squad when India won silver medals in the 2014 and 2018 Asian games. She has played 229 matches for India.
