Playing his first-ever game in the IPL, fast bowler Alzarri Joseph registered the best-ever figures by a bowler in tournament’s history during the clash between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 6, 2019. Hailing from the West Indies, Joseph made his IPL debut for MI memorable with the historic figures in the cash-rich league.

Talking about the match, batting first Mumbai Indians could only post 136 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Kieron Pollard was the top-scorer with an unbeaten 46* runs off 26 balls, hitting two fours and four sixes. For SRH, Siddharth Kaul took two wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan scalped a wicket each. However, even a target of 137 runs turned out to be a massive one due to Alzarri Joseph’s memorable figures on IPL debut.

As MI were looking to defend a total of 136 runs, debutant Alzarri Joseph took charge with the ball and went on to register the memorable figures in the IPL. The fast bowler took six wickets by conceding just 12 runs in his spell of 3.4 overs as SRH were bowled out for just 96 runs in 17.4 overs. MI won the match by 40 runs as Joseph was adjudged player of the match for his historic figures.

Alzarri Joseph has now the best ever figures in an IPL match for a bowler and is only the third bowler after Sohail Tanvir and Adam Zampa to take a six-wicket haul in the IPL history. Alzarri Joseph has played for Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in his IPL career so far.
