Former Australian opener David Warner took the cricketing world by storm when he scored a mammoth total of 335* on November 30, 2019. This was Warner’s maiden Test century and the knock came during the second day of Australia’s second Test in Adelaide. His crucial knock helped the Baggy Greens post a total of 589 runs with the loss of three wickets. While he remained second only to Matthew Hayden’s 380 against Zimbabwe in 2003, Warner failed to surpass Brian Lara’s world record of 400*.
Warner hit a total of 39 fours and one maximum during his entire knock of 418-ball innings, which placed him on the 10th spot on the list of highest scores in Test history. He sits above fellow Australians Sir Don Bradman and Mark Taylor. Not only this, but Warner also became only the seventh Aussie batter to pass the 300-run mark and surpassed his previous best score of 253 runs which he had scored against New Zealand.
To come back here in Australia, put some back-to-back…..: David Warner
After his brilliant knock, David Warner expressed his happiness and said that he was more proud for helping his side begin summer on a positive note. Warner said, "If the boundaries were a little bit shorter, I might have taken them on a bit more. It wasn't a thing in our mind to go out there and try and get the records, it was more about putting ourselves in a position to win the Test.”
He added, "To come back here in Australia, put some back-to-back performances on the board and start the summer well for our team, that's what I was more proud of myself for." Notably, the match also saw Steve Smith scoring 36 runs to become the fastest batter to reach 7,000 runs and beat a record which was standing since 1946. During the game, Australia recorded a commanding win and defeated their South Asian counterparts by a margin of one innings and 48 runs.
