India were all over Sri Lanka during the third ODI of the three-match series at home at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on January 15, 2023. The Men in Blue defeated the Lankan Lions by a huge margin of 317 runs to complete a 3-0 whitewash and register the biggest-ever victory by runs in the history of ODI cricket. For India, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli laid the foundation for a mammoth total with their respective centuries. After that, the bowlers did their job well as Sri Lanka didn’t get a chance against India in that game.
Coming to bat first after winning the toss, India had a great start as skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put up an opening partnership of 95 runs in 15.2 overs. Rohit got out after scoring 42(49) runs, hitting two fours and three sixes. After that, Gill was joined by Virat Kohli as the duo added 131 runs before the fall of the second wicket.

Shubman Gill got out after scoring 116(97) runs, hitting 14 fours and two sixes. On the other hand, Virat Kohli went on to smash his 46th ODI ton and remained unbeaten on 166*(110) runs with 13 fours and eight sixes, as India posted 390/5 after the end of their 50 overs. Apart from that, Shreyas Iyer also scored 38(32) runs and put up a partnership of 108 runs for the third wicket for Sri Lanka as India reached the 390-run mark.
In reply to India’s mammoth total, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for just 73 runs in 22 overs. For India, Mohammed Siraj registered figures of 4/32, while Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav scalped two wickets each. With this win, India also achieved their biggest win in ODI cricket by the margin of runs.
