Star English batter Joe Root is celebrating his 34th birthday on December 30, 2024. The right-hander is currently one of the best players to play for England, especially in Test cricket. Root has already became England’s leading run-getter across all formats of the game, and also tops the list in the Test format for the Three Lions. Root is currently 2950 runs behind Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar in his quest to become the all-time leading run-getter in Test cricket. 

Joe Root made his debut in a Test match against India in Nagpur on December 13, 2012. Since then, he has played 152 Tests, 171 ODIs, and 32 T20Is in his international career so far, amassing 20387 runs in all three formats combined. Most Runs for England (Test+ODIs+T20Is): Joe Root is now the all-time highest run-scorer for England across all formats, and only player from the country to cross 20,000 runs. The right-hander has amassed 20,387 runs from 355 matches in his international career in all three formats combined. 

Most Runs in Test among active players: Joe Root is currently the fifth players in the list of all-time highest run-scorer in Test cricket. However, he comes first in the list of active cricketers to score most runs in the longest format with 12972 runs in 152 games. Behind him is Australia’s Steve Smith with 9962 runs in 113 matches.

Fastest English player to score 12000 Test Runs: Joe Root is only the second English player after Alastair Cook and the fastest from the country to reach the milestone of 12,000 runs in Test cricket. Root achieved the feat in his 261st Test innings against West Indies in Birmingham on July 26, 2024.
