On April 9, 2023, Rinku Singh scripted one of the greatest comebacks as Kolkata Knight Riders snatched the victory away from Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With 28 runs needed from the last five balls, Rinku smashed five consecutive sixes against Yash Dayal as KKR registered a famous victory from the jaws of defeat.
Batting first, GT posted a total of 204 runs for the loss of four wickets. In their 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan contributed with 53(38) runs while Vijay Shankar top scored with 63 runs off 24 balls. For KKR, Sunil Narine took three wickets while Suyash Sharma put one in his bag. Chasing the winning target, KKR didn’t had a great start as they lost two wickets for 28 runs in four overs. After that, Venkatesh Iyer and skipper Nitish Rana took charge of the innings.
Rinku Singh smashed last five balls for six as GT registered famous win
Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana put up a partnership of 100 runs for the third wicket as KKR were back in the game. Rana got out after scoring 45(29) runs, hitting four fours and three sixes. After that, Rinku Singh joined Iyer at the crease as the duo added 26 runs before Iyer got out after a well made 83(40) runs, hitting eight fours and five sixes. However, the match was going away from KKR’s hand as they lost Andre Russel, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur cheaply in the middle overs.
Now, the match went down to the last over where KKR required 29 runs to win with Rinku Singh and Umesh Yadav at the crease. On the first ball of the over, Umesh took an important single and gave Rinku the strike. After that, the left-handed batter did the impossible as he smashed thee next five balls for sixes and guided KKR to a famous win in Ahmedabad.
