In cricket, there have been a few moments where the batters showed their prowess and went on to smash six sixes on six balls of the over. However, Maharashtra skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad went beyond during his double century against Uttar Pradesh in the second quarter final of the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 28.
Batting at 165* runs ahead of the 48th over, Ruturaj Gaikwad took charge against left-arm spinner Shiva Singh, and went on to smash five sixes on the first five balls, including the fifth one being a no-ball. After that, Gaikwad continued his bashing and smashed consecutive sixes on the free hit and the last ball of the innings, smashing total 43 runs in an over, including 42 runs with the bat. With this, he also became the first batter to smash seven sixes in an over.
Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed 220* against UP in 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy
Batting first, Maharashtra posted 330/5 in the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter final against Uttar Pradesh in Ahmedabad. Ruturaj Gaikwad was top scorer with his captain’s knock of an unbeaten 220 runs of 159 runs, smashing 10 fours and 16 sixes, including seven sixes in the 49th overs itself. Apart from that, Ankit Bawne and Azim Kazi also scored 37 runs each as Maharashtra crossed 300 runs. For UP, Kartik Tyagi took 3 scalps while Ankit Rajpoot and Shivam Sharma scalped a wicket each.
Chasing a big target, opener Aryan Juyal turned out to be a lone warrior for UP with a knock of 159(143) runs hitting 18 fours and three sixes. However, his knock went in vain as the he didn’t get much support from that other end, and UP were bowled out for 272 runs in 47.4 overs, losing the match by 58 runs. Rajvardhan Hangargekar registered a five-wicket haul for Maharashtra, while Satyajeet Bacchav and Shamshuzama Kazi scalped 2-2 wickets and Manoj Ingale put one in his bag.
