Sunrisers Hyderabad broke the record for the highest-ever IPL total in a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 15, 2024. Just a couple of weeks after smashing 277/3 against Mumbai Indians, SRH went on to break the record of highest team total in IPL for the second time in the same season as they ended up posting a mammoth 287 runs for the loss of three wickets in their 20 overs.

Coming to bat first after losing the toss, SRH got a flying start as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma put up an opening partnership of 108 runs in 8.1 overs. Abhishek got out after scoring 34(22) runs, hitting two fours and two sixes. Meanwhile, Head went on to complete his maiden IPL ton in just 39 balls. The left-hander got out after scoring 102 runs off 42 balls, smashing nine fours and eight sixes.

SRH smashed 287/3; RCB replied with 262/7 while chasing

After Travis Head’s dismissal, Heinrich Klaasen contributed with a fiery 67 runs off 31 balls, hitting two fours and seven sixes. After that, Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad gave finishing touched with 32*(17) runs and 37*(10) runs respectively as SRH created history by posting 287/3 in 20 overs.

Chasing a huge target, RCB also got a great start as skipper Faf du Plessis (62 off 28) and Virat Kohli (42 off 20) added 80 runs for the first wicket in just 6.2 overs. After that, the middle-order couldn’t stay at the crease for long as the match went far away from RCB. However, Dinesh Karthik fought single-handedly as RCB also crossed the 260-run mark and escaped a big defeat. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 83(35) runs, hitting five fours and seven sixes as RCB ended up posting 262 for the loss of seven wickets.
