Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag is known for his fiery batting and power-hitting abilities during his cricketing career. Even in Test cricket, Sehwag used to give fiery starts to the Indian team and score big runs. He is the only Indian player to hit two triple hundreds in Test cricket and joins the list with legendary players like Don Bradman, Chris Gayle and Brian Lara. Sehwag was on the verge of becoming the first-ever batter to score three triple hundreds in Test on December 4, 2009.

During a Test match at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai from December 2 to 6 in 2009, Sri Lanka 393 runs in the first innings against India with Tillakaratne Dilshan top scoring with 109(160) runs. On the other hand, Angelo Mathews fell short of his ton by just one run as he got out after scoring 99(131) runs. In reply to Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 393, India got a great start as Virender Sehwag and Murali added 221 runs for the first wicket. Vijay got out after scoring 87(121). After that, Sehwag added another 237 runs with Rahul Dravid (74 off 147) and was nearing his third triple hundred in Test cricket. With just seven short runs short of the milestone, Sehwag was tricked by Muttiah Muralitharan as he got out after scoring 293 runs off 254 balls smashing 40 fours and seven maximums. If he had scored those seven runs, Sehwag would have become the first batter in history to score three triple centuries in Test cricket.

After that, skipper MS Dhoni als remained unbeaten on 100*(154) runs, as India posted a mammoth 726/9 taking a lead of 333 runs in the first innings. After that, Zaheer Khan shone with a five-wicket haul in the second innings as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 309 runs and India won the match by an innings and 24 runs.
