Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin interacted with former England cricketer Michael Vaughan along with former Australian great Adam Gilchrist also a part of the discussion. Speaking on the ‘Club Prairie Fire’ podcast, Michael Vaughan took a sly dig on India and Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, seeing his form during the India versus England Test series.
However, the Indian youngster put on a show during the five-match Test series as he amassed 712 runs, including two double centuries and three fifties, at an average of 89, he also became just the second batter after Sunil Gavaskar to aggregate over 700 runs in a Test series. Seeing his performance at the recently concluded India versus England Tests, Michael Vaughan questioned that whether he could replicate similar performances in other countries, including Australia.
“Will he be able to perform the same in other countries as well?” Michael Vaughan said. To this, the Indian veteran and RR spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently completed his 500th Test wickets, laughed and replied, “You will only say that if you want him to fail.”
“This is one part of the narrative that I genuinely laugh at. In India as well, you have lots of experts saying about someone who has sort of burst onto the scene. Hey, but hang on, let’s wait and see how they do in Australia, in South Africa, in England,” Ashwin further added. “I find it ridiculously funny, because unless and until you want somebody to fail, you wouldn’t say something like that. You’re looking forward to somebody failing, because that’s the beauty of international cricket,” he added.
It is to be noted that Jaiswal, who is currently playing in IPL 2024 for Rajasthan Royals, became the third youngest batter after Don Bradman and Vinod Kambli to score consecutive double centuries in Tests.
